Hexagon

Hexagon is a data-driven guide to where to live in France. It brings together open public data and scores all 96 metropolitan departments and 34,806 communes, so places can be compared on evidence rather than reputation.

It began as a spreadsheet. My spouse and I have lived in the US for over ten years, and over that time more and more friends, and friends of friends, started asking us about moving to France. I wanted to give them an honest, objective answer I could layer my own experience onto, rather than just naming my favorite places.

The spreadsheet, predictably, got a little out of hand. It is now becoming its own application, in the hope it helps anyone weighing the same move.
